An Ode To a Princess I Once Shared Life With
There once, and only once was a Godly princess in the land. She lived in the Kings' palace and every day she tended her garden. The palace was fenced in, but the princess had a view of the outside. One day, a young man stopped to watch the princess tend her garden. She glanced at the young man and went back to tending her garden. Taking out the thorns, cutting the dead branches, watering the petals of the roses, the young man was so fascinated by the princess' practice. For the next few weeks, the young man was diligent to go every day by the fence where the princess would tend her garden. The young man asked himself "Why would she do this every day?" His first words to the princess were, "Princess, why do you tend your garden every day?" The princess smiled and said, "I'm waiting". The young man replied, "If I may ask, what are you waiting for?". The princess, still full with her smile said, "It's not what I'm waiting for, its who I'm waiting for!" The young man pondered this and off he went. The next day, the princess was sad to see the young man was not there. This went on for days, then weeks, and then months. As time went on, the princess continued to work on her garden. After two years, a taller, more mature man came up to the fence of the princess' garden. The man noticed how beautiful and lush the garden was. As the princess lifted her head, her eyes widened and to her surprise it was the young man, from long ago. The princess full of joy asked the man, "Where have you been?" The man replied, "I was so enamoured by your garden and how well you took care of it, that I decided to make my own garden! All these years I've been tending my own garden and they have the same roses as you!" At that moment the princess knew that this man was the one for her. The man asked if he was able to enter her garden. The princess, with much joy, opened the gate and immediately at that moment, the man knew that the princess was the one for him. Days went by when the man and Princess would enjoy in each others' gardens. Then one day, the man decided to ask the princess for her hand in marriage. The princess gladly accepted and brought the man into the royal family. The first night they were together, the man, full of curiosity, asked, "Why did you take of your garden so much?" The princess, delighted to hear the question, replied, "God told me to. I was waiting for you. The garden was my heart, and I was taking care of my heart. I took out the branches of darkness and death that could have damaged my heart, I snipped and pruned the wild thorns of evil that could have punctured my heart, I watered the roses that made them grow and bloom. I was preparing my heart for you!" The man with tears in his eyes said, "I was waiting for you too, I started later than you, thats why I was gone for a while, I wanted my roses to look like yours, I wanted my heart to be like yours."
The years went by, the man and princess enjoying each other, making a family. The Godly Princess taught her daughters how to tend their gardens, and the Godly man, the same with his sons. Sadly, one day the princess and man died together, but the roses still bloomed. The children decided to bury them in the gardens beside each other, and to this day, the roses still bloom, just like they did, the days that the Godly Princess tended her garden.
May we never forget to tend the gardens that God has entrusted to us.
